Most of the medical authorities pooh-pooh the value of a tan. Many say it is just skin damage and should be avoided. Others admit it might provide some protection against erythema and sunburn, but they say it has at most an SPF of 2 to 3. Interestingly, there apparently has never been a scientific study on the SPF of a tan until we did one in 2021. We believe our experiment is the only actual experiment ever done in history to determine the SPF of a tan. It found that the SPF of a tan is 24, and of course a tan doesn’t have to be applied correctly, doesn’t wash off and doesn’t have to be reapplied every 2 hours or even weekly. Click here for a report of that experiment.
